A daily wager recently lost his life after sitting on an exploding box of firecrackers as part of a bet on Diwali day in southern Bengaluru. He passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Shabari M, 32, was a resident of Konanakunte in Bengaluru. The incident took place when Shabari along with six of his friends was burning firecrackers on the night of October 31. All seven friends were allegedly drunk.
At one point, Shabari was challenged to sit on a box filled with firecrackers. A police officer said one of his friends told Shabari that they would give him an auto-rickshaw if he took up the challenge. But if he failed, then he would have to leave the town.
CCTV footage shared by police sources shows Shabari sitting on the box of firecrackers and his friends running to a safe distance. Moments later, the box explodes, leaving Shabari grievously injured.
The Konanakunte police have registered a case under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested all six friends of Shabari – Naveen Kumar, Dinakaran, Sathyavelu, Karthik, Satish and Santosh Kumar.
