Description:

The cellar of an under-construction hotel collapsed during excavation work, claiming the lives of three migrant workers in the L.B. Nagar area of Hyderabad on Wednesday (February 5, 2025) morning. Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Veeraiah, 50, his son Ramu, 21, and his nephew Vasu, 20, all labourers from Mallupalli village in Khammam. According to police and locals, around 10 workers were engaged in excavation when the mud boundary suddenly caved in, trapping some of them under the debris.

Upon receiving the alert, police and Disaster Response Force (DRF) personnel rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation.

“The builders had permission for two cellars and a G+4 structure. The incident occurred during excavation work for the cellar,” said police. As of Wednesday evening, no case had been registered. “An investigation is under way to determine any lapses,” added the police.
